St Luke's C of E Primary School, Glossop

Dear Parents,

Just like the Paralympic team we have been showered with Golds! The school has been awarded Gold Gamesmark for the amount of sport we do and Gold Artsmark for our commitment to the teaching of The Arts. To add to this the kitchen has been awarded Gold by the catering department for their work I am so proud of the school for these massive achievements.

Clubs have restarted this week and a record number of children have been able to access an extracurricular activity after school or at lunchtime.

Next week is a busy week:

Tuesday 20^th Y6 are going to St Philip Howard for three and a half hours of activities.  St Philip Howard School is very kindly providing lunch for them all.

Also on Tuesday, yes the Y6 will be back in time, a theatre company is performing Wind in The Willows to all the classes.

As if Tuesday wasn’t already jam packed at 6pm we have a meeting for the parents of children going to Whitehall.

Wednesday 21^st the Y2s start swimming.  They are meeting at the pool at 8.45.  This is a brand new opportunity we have been offered.

Thursday 22^nd Y6 start swimming.

Friday 23^rd is our Harvest Festival.  This year we are collecting for Bear Necessities, Glossop Food bank.  We are asking the children to bring in non-perishable food such as tinned soup, tinned vegetables, sweetcorn, tinned potatoes, custard, rice pudding, cereal, long life milk, pasta, pasta sauces, tinned fish, meats of all kind, spaghetti and baked beans. Please join us for the service at St Luke’s Church at around 9.20.

Also on Friday is the PTA Scoot and Skate straight after school.

The choir are singing as part of the Harvest Festival in St Luke’s Church on Sunday 24^th.  They need to be at Church for 9.45 in uniform.

Glossop Jog is fast approaching if your child would like to take part, or you would, please let the office know.

Someone has lost a two tone blue hooded sweatshirt jacket, rebel label, age 8 please could you have a look at home just in case it has made it to your house.

Toast starts tomorrow. For those that don’t know the children bring in 20p and get a Friday treat of toast.  Some of the younger children gave in 20p last week this will be carried over.  Thank you to all the parents that help cook the toast.

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the new school year. The children have all come back keen and eager, it is so nice to see them all again.  It is also lovely to welcome our new Reception children who made such a great start yesterday.  I have already picked up that dinosaurs and diggers are going to be popular.

Tomorrow is the first Friday Family Assembly where you are all welcome to join us. As it is the first of the year the PTA have organised a cake and chat meeting after it please do come if you can, especially if you are a new St Luke’s parent.

As you will have noticed across the summer the playground has been resurfaced and looks so much better. I am sorry about the hole which appeared during the resurfacing, we are hoping that the investigation and refilling of it will be completed soon.

During the summer a number of scooters were left. We cannot continue to store the scooters so please collect any belonging to your family by the end of the week.

You should have had a letter about the after school clubs on offer this year. If there is one your child would like to attend please return the slip so we can sort out numbers.

Parents of Y6 pupils should have received a letter about their residential trip to Whitehall. Please return the slip letting us know about their participation by tomorrow.

The Glossop Jog is almost upon us it is on Sunday 2^nd October at 11am.  This is a fantastic community event organised by the Rotary Club of Glossop.  The children, and sometimes their parents, are sponsored to do as many laps as they can.  This year the money raised will go to Blyth House Hospice, St Christopher’s Trust and Café Jericho.  St Luke’s families have always supported and enjoyed this event I hope this year will be no different.  Look out for further information.

Whitfield Parish has organised an event for parents looking at internet safety and how to keep your children safe online. It is on September 27^th 7-9 at St James’ Church.

Ian Perks the guitar teacher has some spaces available if your child is Y3 and above and would like to learn the guitar please let the office know.

Dear Parents,

Well it seems summer has finally arrived with a bang. The children all did very well through the intense heat earlier this week.

Thank you all for your textile donations there seemed to be a big pile of bags on Monday.

Huge congratulations to the children in Year 5 & 6 for their production. The quality of acting, singing and heat management was fabulous.  The new stage lighting added an extra dimension to their work.

Some of the Year 4s are out at cyclo cross this afternoon. I am sure they will have a fantastic time.

This Friday the Harriers are leading our assembly do join us if you can.

Friday is also non uniform day and disco day. The children are invited to come to school in practical non uniform, all we ask is that they bring a bottle for the PTA.  The disco starts at 5pm and finishes at 6.30.  It costs £1

Next Monday is move up morning when the children work with their teacher for next year.

Tuesday 26^th is our last day.  As is traditional the Year 6 will be leading the assembly, they then will have leavers lunch with some of the staff – if any of the children are on packed lunches and would like a dinner that day please just let us know. A dinner costs £2. In the evening they are going out to tea with us meeting at 5pm at The Pico Lounge.  I wish all of those children leaving us well as they take their next step.

I am attaching some information about Pokemon Go produced by the safeguarding team at Derbyshire. I found it very interesting.

There are lots of summer activities for the children around and about. I look forward to hearing all about what they have been doing especially the Library Reading Challenge.

We have a number of bikes and scooters left in school. Keith has asked that they are picked up before the end of term.

St Luke’s Newsletter

14.7.16

Dear Parents,

Thank you for all your efforts towards the pyjama party. The children had a lovely day and we raised £125 for Bay Tree Books charity The Winnie Mombasa Foundation.

Congratulations to the participants in the spelling bee. I understand a good time was had by all, many words were spelt and our children did very well.

The summer concert on Tuesday was fantastic. The children sang and played so well. The children can all be so proud of themselves for getting up there and showing us all just how well they can perform. Many thanks to all the music teachers, Ed who played the piano and of course to Mrs Hillier.

Thank you to Glossopdale who invited our Y4s to their afternoon performance of Alice in Wonderland.

Today we are all enjoying a day of storytelling, this is the prize the Y1s won for their film about The Lord’s Prayer.

Clubs finish this week so there will be no afterschool clubs until the new academic year.

Next Monday is Bag 2 School Day please bring in all your old textiles and shoes. They will be reused or recycled and we raise money for school fund.

Next week is the Y5/6 production of Hagbane’s Doom. The Tuesday night is a sell out performance so entry will be by ticket only so please remember to bring your ticket with you. There are spaces left on Wednesday afternoon at 2pm so if anyone would like to come then they would be very welcome.

Friday 22nd is a very exciting day with non-uniform day, please bring in a bottle for the next fair, and the PTA disco 5-6.30pm.

On Monday 25th it is move round morning when the children spend time with their teacher for next year in their new classroom.

We finish for the summer on Tuesday 26th July at normal time.

On Friday 15th there will be a 40ft container just the other side of the bridge down the cutting. This will make it very difficult to pass by foot an impossible by car. Thank you to Mrs Foster for letting us know about this so we can all make alternative plans.
