Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a lovely week last week. The children have come back to our Big Write Week and have all been involved in creating characters, stories, reports and letters. I am really looking forward to reading their writing.

You should have received your child’s photo proof this week. If you would like to order any copies please return the form and money by Thursday 12th November.

Just a reminder that it is non uniform day tomorrow. The children in Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys are asked to bring in donations for the chocolate tombola and everyone else, gifts for the wrap stall.

The boy’s football league starts on Friday after school. I know the boys are looking forward to this.

Next Monday the Year 6s go to Whitehall for three days residential. I am sure they will have a great time.

Thursday 12th is the day the children in Years 1&2 will get their flu immunisation. If you haven’t yet sent back your form about this please do so.

There is a PTA meeting 7.15 at The Cricket Club. Everyone is encouraged to come if they can.

On Friday 13th the Kestrels will be leading our assembly at just after 9.00, do join us for this if you can. It is also the night of the Year 4 Sleep Over!

On Tuesday 24th November we are holding an open afternoon for anyone who would like to look round the school. If you know of anyone who’s children will start school next September do invite them to come for a look. If you would like to come and look at what the children are doing you would be very welcome.

This is a special plea to help with school funds. For every child eligible for free school meals at our school we get extra money in the budget. Now all the children in Reception Year 1 and Year 2 get a dinner free people don’t necessarily apply and without that application we don’t get the funding. Please, please, please if you think you qualify apply. See below:

Dear Parents,

We are almost at the end of this half term and what a busy one it has been. The children are looking ready for a holiday to recharge their batteries and come back ready to learn.

This week has been a very successful week for the Tag Rugby Teams. On Tuesday Glossop Rugby Club and High Peak Sport organised a special tournament. It was an amazing event with face painting, an ex England player signing autographs and information about a healthy lifestyle. At the last minute we were offered the chance to take a second team as another team had dropped out. Our second team came third and our original team came second. They were very disappointed because they only lost the final at the very last moment due to a disallowed try. It bodes very well for the real tournament later in the year.

Also on Tuesday three of our pupils organised a stall in the playground to raise money for Wateraid. They raised an amazing £50, which will be match funded by the government. Well done to them.

The report following the church school inspection has come out this week, you should get a copy tonight. It is well worth a read as it says lots of lovely things about your children. It is so reassuring to have an external inspector come into school and appreciate the quality of the work being done and the fabulous social relationships between the children.

Tomorrow Peregrines are leading our Assembly please join us if you can, it will be shorter than last weeks!

We finish for half term tomorrow and so the PTA will be selling popcorn in the playground to get us all in a holiday mood.

Over half term it will be Halloween and I know trick or treating is a very popular activity. The police every year ask us to remind everyone that it needs to be done safely. If you choose to let your children go out they need to be with an adult. Please respect other members of the community by only knocking on doors of people you know or who have indicated that they wish to participate. A number of older or more vulnerable members of the community are scared by people knocking on their doors at night, and feel intimidated by unknown people in the dark. I know you are all kind people who are enjoying an event but others don’t. I do know that lots of you will be attending a party or organising something at home rather than going out on the streets so that the occasion can be safely enjoyed by everyone.

As usual we are collecting for the Royal British Legion and so have poppies for sale in school for a donation. This year The Royal British Legion has also sent a small collection of gifts for sale for 50p. They include pencils, rubbers, bugs, reflective tags and wristbands. If you would like your child to buy any of them they are available from the office.

We return to school on Monday 2nd November. That evening at 6pm we have a meeting for the parents of the Merlin’s Class who are going to Whitehall.

On Tuesday 3rd November the Eagles will get the chance to have a go on a climbing wall which the council are bringing to school. They need to have their PE kit in school for that day.

If you haven’t returned your Glossop Fun Run Jog money yet please do so as the Rotary Club want to finalise totals and certificates.

On Friday 6th November we are having a non-uniform day. In return for the pleasure of wearing suitable home clothes we are asking the children to bring in donations for the Christmas Fair. The fair is the PTAs main fundraising event of the year and we are always very grateful for the support you give. This year we are asking the children in Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys to bring in something chocolatey for the chocolate tombola. The rest of school are asked to bring in a gift for the wrap stall. The idea of this is that the children can buy a present for a family member and the staff will wrap it for them all ready for the big day. Kites are asked to bring in red gifts, Harriers green gifts, Eagles gold gifts and Merlins silver gifts but anything that would make a lovely present for a child to give you would be very welcome.

There is a new menu starting after half term. You should have a copy coming home tonight. The first week back is National school Meals week so the menu is slightly different:

Monday meatballs or vegetable lasagne
Tuesday chicken curry or cheese & bean burritos
Wednesday roast turkey dinner or cheese and potato flan
Thursday sausages or vegetarian sausages
Friday fish fingers or vegetarian pastry roll

There have been a number of reports of nits please check your families’ hair over half term and treat them with lotion or by combing if live head lice are found.

Dear Parents,

Our footballers have had a very successful week – on Friday both teams got through to the High Peak Final, which was played on Monday. The girl’s team came second and the boy’s team were given third place. They actually came joint second on points and goal difference but because the other team had beaten them in the match they had played against each other the second place was awarded to them. What a huge achievement by both teams. Well done to them and to the people who coach them.

Tomorrow night is the PTA disco. The theme is inspired ‘Strictly rugby’ I cannot wait to see what the children wear to this! Will it be sequins and dancing shoes or rugby shirts or maybe a combination of them both! It is 5-6.30pm £1 entry. There will as ever be food and things to buy. See you on the dance floor.

Wednesday morning next week, 21st October, is individual school photos morning. If you would like a photo of your pre-school child they can be done before school.

It is parents evening next week so there will be no school run clubs on Tuesday or Wednesday (PAS will still be on). There will also be no sports club on Thursday as there is a cross country competition.

If you have not yet got an appointment for parents evening please contact us to arrange one.

The Peregrines will be leading our assembly on Friday 23rd of October. I hope you can join us. We also finish for half term on this date. The PTA will be selling popcorn in the playground to get it off to a good start.

The PTA organise the making of toast on a Friday morning but are struggling to get volunteers. The children love this Friday treat. Please think if you could spare an hour occasionally on a Friday morning, if there were lots of people offering to help each person would only need to do a couple of Friday’s a year.

There will be a meeting for the parents of the children going to Whitehall on Monday 2nd November at 6pm.

Next week is Travel Smart Week – better known as walk to school week. Everyone is encouraged to walk scoot or ride at least part of the way to school. This is to reduce the traffic danger around schools at those peak times. Fingers crossed the weather will stay nice and make this a pleasure to join in with.

Dear Parents,
The Glossop Jog – sorry Fun Run – on Sunday was fantastic I was so impressed with all our runners and fallers.  There was a great turn out and everyone did well, the number of laps run in an hour was truly impressive 385 in total!  Thank you to the PTA who ran a lovely stall to revive the runners and spectators.  Please can you return any sponsor money to school as soon as possible as the children are all eager to get their certificates which are not issued by Rotary until all the money is in.
As if that was not enough fun for one Sunday we were also treated to a great concert on Sunday afternoon.  Glossop Old Band and our choir performed songs from the movies.  It was so nice to see the children captivated by the sound the band made and then look so proud as they performed.  Thank you to everyone who took part or supported this, a special thank you to Stephenie Leung who accompanied the choir.
The Church School Inspection went well on Thursday, I will be able to tell you more once the report is published in a few weeks but the inspector did share with me how impressed she was with the children and the way they genuinely enjoyed being together.  Hopefully this bodes well for a good report.  Thank you to everyone who was involved in this process.
The Harvest Festival on Friday went well and the children were flushed with success raising enough to twin four toilets.
On Monday the Girls in Key stage two were offered the opportunity to take part in a football skills session at Glossopdale, run with Glossop North End.  A good time was had by all.  Then on Tuesday our cyclocross team came third in their tournament.  I hope both football teams have fun and do well on Friday.
I hope you can join us on Friday morning when Osprey’s will be leading our Assembly.
You should have received a letter yesterday inviting you to book an appointment to attend a Parents evening on Tuesday 20th or Wednesday 21st October.  If you didn’t get it let us know.
I need to give a couple of reminders about important safety rules.  The traversing wall in the playground is designed for climbing along not up.  Please do not let your child climb to the top as there is no safety flooring under it.  Also the bank is out of bounds to the children as there have been injuries caused by children falling on it.  Thank you for helping us keep the children safe.
We have a few very small jumpers left, size 24”, if you can use them please see the office.
