Dear Parents,

Well the weather has certainly made a difference over the last week.  Well done to everyone who made it safely to school through the snow, and even more impressively across the ice.  I know the children have been very frustrated at being kept in since Monday, as they had such fun playing out in the snow last week, but the playgrounds are not safe.  We are so lucky to have Keith who has cleared a good path so people can get into school without having to go on the ice.

The Merlin’s performance was a victim of the weather. Buxton Opera House had to cancel the performance as so many other schools were closed.  They are trying to reschedule the event for later in the year.

The PTA quiz night still went ahead and was enjoyed by all.  Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this event not just possible but a triumph.

The PTA meeting this week was well attended, it was lovely to see people coming along for the first time.  The plans are now in place for the next disco on Friday 20th February.  It has a theme of red.  The PTA has changed the date of the Easter Raffle and Tea.  It will now be on Tuesday 24th March.

Peregrine Class are leading our assembly on Friday 6th February and Harriers on Friday 20th please join us if you can.

We finish for half term on Friday.  School will reopen on Monday 16th February. Remember the popcorn sale on Friday – weather permitting.

The next bag to school collection is on Friday 27th February.  This is an opportunity for you to clear out all your old textiles and shoes and help raise money for school.  You will be given a blue bag to fill but any bin bag will do.  The collection will be in the morning of the 27th any time after nine.

Class photos will be on Wednesday 25th February.

Good luck to all the children in the House Verse Speaking Competition tomorrow.

Dear Parents,

Excitement is growing amongst the Merlins as they get ready for their performance at Buxton Opera House.  I can’t wait to see them up on that magnificent stage tomorrow.  We all wish them luck.

PTA quiz night is almost upon us.  If you haven’t yet got your ticket for tomorrow there is still time.  I wish I could be in two places at the same time but my super powers don’t seem to be working.  I hope you all have a great evening.  If it is half as good as last year’s you will.

Ospreys will be leading the assembly tomorrow and Peregrines on Friday 6th February.  Do join us at just after 9 if you can.

The annual House Verse Speaking Competition is next Friday so please help your child finish learning their poems.  They will want to impress the judge.

We finish for half term on Friday 6th February, I know so early.  The PTA will be selling popcorn after school so the children can start the holiday with a treat.

I have had a number of people come in this week to complain about parking around school.  I understand people have been parking on the zig zagz, across people’s drives and in a way that blocks everyone else.  As well as this I have had reports of parents using the carpark.  I know drop off and pick up times are fraught, I know parking carefully further away can seem like a chore but we do not want there to be an accident.  Please arrive a little earlier and give yourself time to park further away.

Our new windows are nearly all in, just the hall to do.  They look really smart and are keeping us much warmer.  The window fitters have done a great job at ensuring they keep the children very safe whilst they did what they have to do.  My thanks go out to them for this.

Dear Parents,

The school is alive with the sound of children reciting poems at the moment as the children prepare for the annual House Verse Speaking Competition.  Your child should have brought the words home.  Please help them learn the poems.  Every year parents are amazed by how well the children learn some challenging poems.  If the words haven’t made it home I can give them another copy.

As well as learning poems Merlin’s are very busy learning a dance to perform at Buxton Opera House on Friday 30th January and preparing speeches for their class assembly, this Friday 23rd January.  Everyone is welcome to join us for this assembly.  The Assembly the following Friday, 30th January, will be led by the Ospreys, again everyone is welcome.

The postponed Rugby tournament which should have been today has again had to be postponed, due to the weather, it will now take place on 29th January.  This means that unfortunately running club will need to be cancelled on that day.

Mrs McLaren will be back with us full time from Tuesday 27th January, hooray, which means Monday will be Mrs Beadle’s last day as Kites class teacher, boo.  We are so grateful to her for stepping into Mrs McLaren’s shoes and teaching the class so well.  We will all miss her.  She will however be coming in to do odd supply days so it is not good bye forever.

Remember it is the PTA Quiz night next Friday 30th January.  Last year this was an event enjoyed by all whether or not they could answer the questions, so do get your tickets early.  Do not worry about having to get a team together this will be done on the night, you can come on your own and make new friends.

The next PTA meeting is 3.30 on Tuesday 3rd February.  It is straight after school so anyone picking up their children can come.  We will entertain the children whilst the meeting is on.  Please try to come.

I have been sent information about the course below, which looks good.  If ten or more people are interested they would even run it here at St Luke’s
