Dear Parents,

We are having a very exciting week as the anticipation around Christmas grows:

  • The choir sang beautifully in Glossop on Saturday. Thank you to everyone who supported them or made this possible.
  • The children in Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys are busy preparing for their production next week. Tickets including requests for extras went out yesterday. If you did not get yours please let us know. There are a few spare tickets remaining if you would like some let us know. For the early evening performances on Tuesday and Thursday the children need to be back at school between 5 and 5.15. Doors will open at 5pm. I don’t yet know how long it will be, but I anticipate it being about half to three quarters of an hour.
  • On Tuesday the children accepted our House Christmas Tree Making Challenge. This was fun but also involved the children developing the teamwork and creative skills employers are asking for. The results are stunning. If you get the chance to pop into the hall to see them do. In case you can’t here are some photos.

  • It is the Christmas Fair on Friday 5.30-7.30. The children are getting ever more excited about this. They are decorating baubles to sell, practising to sing in the choir and talking about what they will do. Father Christmas has sent a message to say he will be there and you can book a time to visit his grotto as you arrive. I hope to see lots of you there.

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our runners they continued to do very well in the Tameside series.  Lily Barlow, Rose Barlow and Jack Robertson finished in the top ten and Sally Mc Bride did fantastically well in her first race of the series.  We are very proud of them all.

After school clubs will all finish on Friday 5th December (rugby has already finished).  They will restart on the week beginning 12th January.  Orchestra will still meet on Monday mornings as they are preparing a concert for us in assembly on Monday 15th December – do join us if you can.

Christmas dinner is on Friday 12th December.  We have invited all the children who normally have sandwiches to join in this lovely festive occasion.  The staff and children sit down together to share a delicious dinner cooked by our fabulous kitchen crew.  If your child usually has sandwiches and you have not yet returned the slip requesting a dinner on that day please do so as soon as possible, food needs to be ordered.

The Christmas Fair is fast approaching.  Excitement levels are rising.  I am looking forward to sharing this event with all of you on Friday 5th December 5.30 – 7.30.  To help stock some of the stalls it is non uniform day tomorrow.  The children in Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys are asked to bring in some chocolate for the chocolate tombola.  The older children have been asked to bring in a gift for the wrap stall.  The idea of this stall is that the children can buy a gift to give to a parent, grandparent or whoever.  We will wrap it for them whilst they write a label.  They can then take it home and put it away secretly until the big day.  The children have been given a colour theme but if you are struggling to find something the right colour anything suitable as a gift would be lovely.

The Choir is singing in Glossop on Saturday at 4.30.  They would love to have lots of support for their efforts.

Harriers assembly is on Friday 9.00 please join us if you can.

Not everyone from Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys has returned their ticket request form for the children’s Christmas Play.  If you need another copy of the form please contact the office.

The Harriers have been learning the violin. They will be showing us just how good they are, and they are, in Assembly on Friday 12th December 9.00.  This will be an unmissable concert so do join us.

Yours Sincerely

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your generosity we raised £200 for Children in Need.  The children looked fantastic in their bonkers bottoms.

Friday was the Year Four sleep over.  The children had a fabulous time.  They played games, made mementos, cooked supper and star gazed.  They all settled down to sleep in the hall.  In the morning we had breakfast together, played a few more games and then parents came to pick their children up.  I was so proud of the children who were a little nervous sleeping away from home, maybe for the first time, but bravely did it, had a good time and left with a smile on their faces.  It is such a good preparation for residential trips in Years 5 and 6.  A huge thank you goes out to all the staff who gave up their Friday evening and in some cases night.

Tomorrow Eagles will be leading our Friday Assembly please join us if you can.  Harriers will be leading it on Friday 28th.

On Wednesday 19th our Prime Minister, Deputy and Chancellor went to Charlesworth for the Glossop Pupil Forum.  They had the opportunity to talk to other children from the cluster about the issues that affect them.

Remember Years 3 and 6 are going out for their trip to Quarry Bank Mill on Friday 21st November.  The children do not need to come in uniform.  They need warm layers and waterproofs, especially Year 6 who will be doing field work outside.

The Boy’s Football Team will be playing the next round of their tournament on Friday after school.  We all wish them well.

Some children from the choir will have the opportunity to sing as part of the cluster on Tuesday 25th November as St Mary’s is hosting a singing workshop.

On Wednesday 26th November the Year 5s are participating in a dance workshop at Glossopdale School.  They will work with other children from the cluster to develop their dance skills.  They all need to remember their PE kits on that day.

Non-uniform day is on Friday 28th November.  Children in Kestrels, Peregrines and Ospreys are asked to bring in a donation for the chocolate tombola.  The older children have been asked for gifts for the wrapping stall.  These are items your child can buy and we will wrap them so they can secretly give them to family members for Christmas.  Please make every effort to bring in your donation on the day as they will be collected and organised in readiness for the Christmas fair the following week.

I have been told about another exciting science day in Manchester, University Place.  On Saturday 29th November 11-3 Manchester University is running a ‘Bugs to Drugs’ day.  This is an opportunity to find out how medicines are made; what’s in them; and how they work.  The children can meet scientists and take part in interactive activities.  As if that was not enough it is free.

Yours Sincerely

Alice Littlehailes

Dear Parents,

Congratulations go out to our cross country runners who were fleet of foot on Tuesday.  Everyone ran well.  The lower junior Boys Team came first.

The Eagles had an amazing trip to Castleton despite the torrential rain.  They all returned full of what a fabulous day it had been.

Tomorrow is Children in Need day.  We are wearing bonkers bottoms.  Come in normal school uniform on the top half but whatever you like on the bottom.  For the privilege of coming dressed in this way please send a donation.

Tomorrow Kestrels will be leading our Friday Assembly please join us if you can.  Eagles will be leading it on Friday 21st.

Friday is the night of the Year Four Sleep Over I know everyone is really looking forward to it.  We will see the children back at school at 6pm.

On Wednesday 19th our Prime Minister, Deputy and Chancellor are invited to Charlesworth for the Glossop Pupil Forum.  This is an opportunity for pupils from the local schools to meet together and talk about the issues that matter to them.

Remember Years 3 and 6 are going out for their trip to Quarry Bank Mill on Friday 21st November.  If you have not yet sent in the permission slip please do as soon as possible. If your child is in receipt of free school meals and you would like us to provide a packed lunch please let us know by Wednesday.

On Tuesday 18th November all the staff have a cluster meeting so film, gardening and science clubs will be cancelled, PAS will still be on.

If your child is part of the school choir please could you return the letter about availability for performances, even if it is to tell us they are not available.  We have organisers asking us for details we cannot give because we don’t know who will be singing.

Hopefully you will have seen the flyer about the non-uniform day on Friday 28th November.

Please send in any photo orders by Monday as they are being picked up on Tuesday 18th.

Yours Sincerely

Alice Littlehailes
