Dear Parents,

This week has been our least favourite week of the year as the Year 6s have had to do their SATs tests.  I have however been incredibly proud of them. They have remained positive, focused and upbeat throughout.

We have still done a number of exciting things.  On Tuesday a member of the Parliament Education team came to talk to the children about parliament and how it works.  He was very impressed by how much the children know about our democracy.

We have also had a member of the road safety team in talking to the children about staying safe near the roads.

The Kites have been out at a cricket event.  They bounced back having had a wonderful time.

Some of the children in Peregrines and Ospreys represented us at a Gymnastics event.

Last Friday we had House Dinners.  This is part of our ongoing efforts to support the children having good table manners.  Whilst a number of the children can use a knife and fork there are children across the school who cannot.  We would love you to also help them to learn this skill.  We also practice having good conversations over the dining table.  The other positive of this is that the children get to sit with children from other classes and the family feel of the school can grow.

We are waiting for a number of slips back from parents.  Eagles still need to return Jubilee concert and Whitehall slips; Kites need to return Magna slips.  If you haven’t returned the slip to say your child either can or cannot go to an event please can you as soon as possible.

On Tuesday 24th May staff from Glossopdale will be coming down to talk to the Year 6 pupils starting with them in September.  They will be available to talk to any parents of these children in the playground at the end of the school day.

Next week is walk to School Week. We encourage everyone to walk, scoot or cycle to and from school that week.  If you live too far away to do the full distance you could park further away from school and walk some of the distance.

I am attaching a letter from the PTA about this year’s raffle.  We are combining the pulling of the raffle with the school’s celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee on Friday 27th May.  Parents are invited to join the street (playground) party from 2.30pm.  On that day if the children would like to dress in red, white and blue they are very welcome to.

Stay happy and healthy
