Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe but this Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent, the 4 Sundays before Christmas, when Christian churches start their preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ.  There will be advent candles lit across the country and advent carols will start to be sung.  It is a very special time of year in the church calendar when Christians reflect on what God coming to earth means to them.  As a church school we will also be starting our advent reflections and preparing for our celebrations.

Some of the children have decorated a tree to be part of St Mary’s Church Christmas tree festival.  From 10am on Saturday there will be lots of things going on in the church and opportunities to see the trees.  The trees will stay up throughout advent so if you are unable to see the trees on Saturday you can see them another day.

Tomorrow 25th November is non-uniform day.  The children can come in their own, suitable, clothes in return for a donation for the PTA Christmas Fair.  We are suggesting that R,Y1,Y2 & Y3 bring in gifts for the gift stall and the rest of the school bring in chocolate.

This year at the fair the PTA are having a wellies and woollies stall.  If you have old wellies or woollies that no longer fit your children but that still have life left in them; please bring them in so someone else can use them.  You may well find something for your children on this stall.  We are hoping that this green initiative will be very popular.  Woollies can include things like hats, gloves, scarves, jumpers or cardigans.

There will also be a second hand book stall.  If you have some books your children have finished with please donate them to the fair.  There are boxes in the entrance hall where you can put books, wellies and woollies.

All school led clubs will finish on Thursday 8th December.

On Friday 25th November Ospreys will be leading our worship.  As usual I will text you the code word for entry to this assembly.  On Friday 2nd it will be Kite’s turn.

On the last day on term 22nd December we are having our school Christmas Dinner.  This is a lovely occasion when the school eat together.  Almost all the children take part in this celebration.  If your child is not going to have a Christmas Dinner, please let the office know.  If we don’t hear from you we will assume your child will be having a school dinner that day.

On Tuesday 6th December a film company is coming into school to make a film about our arts provision because of our Platinum Artsmark.  The film is being made for The Mighty Creatives and will be used by them to promote Artsmark.  It will most likely appear on their You Tube feed.  Most of the footage of the children will be of them engaged in activities or in the background.  If you do not want your child to appear in this film please let us know.

Dear Parents,

We have had another busy week.  The younger children all enjoyed a wellbeing workshop.  I hope some of the older children joined the newly formed Glossop Choir, it is still not too late for them to join now.  The footballers made a good start to the league.  I was especially impressed by their attitude towards teams with fewer strong players.  The Church of England Younger Leaders met for the first time.  The children attending ‘Healthy Me’ have come back with ideas of how to make us all healthier.

The PTA Christmas Fair is fast approaching (3.30 -5pm 2nd December) and plans are afoot.  On Friday 25th November the children are invited to come in non-uniform for a donation for the fair.  The children in Y4-6 are asked to bring in chocolate for the chocolate wheel.  The children in R – Y3 donations for the gift stall.  This is a stall where the children can secretly buy a present for you and have it wrapped all ready for the big day. In other words, make sure you send in something you would be happy to receive!  Of course if you want to send in donations for both stalls you are very welcome to.  Non-uniform is not dressing up as the children still have to do their normal day, it is practical casual clothes.

There is a change of date for the Harriers Assembly from the 9th December to the 7th December.  This is so they can give you a strings concert as part of it.

The Peregrines will be leading our collective worship on Friday.  Their assembly will be just after 9am.  You will be sent the code word to come into it in the morning.  The Ospreys will be leading the following Friday 25th November.

I just wanted to remind you about online safety particularly social media groups.  Despite none of our children being old enough to be on groups like WhatsApp (their age limit is 16+) we know a number of them are.  Every year we get reports of children being unkind to each other using these platforms.  We educate the children in school about social media but you also have a role to play.  As parents if you have allowed your child to use these platforms it is important you monitor what they are doing, saying and receiving.  We need to work together to keep our young people safe.

Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone who sent in a shoe box we have been overwhelmed by your generosity.  I know they will make a big difference to the recipients.

Well done to everyone who took part in the cross country run.  It sounds as if a good time has been had by all.

This Friday, 11th Nov, Y6 will be leading our collective act of worship (assembly).  Their parents are welcome to attend.  It will start at about 9.10.  I will text the code word to you that morning.

Year 1 will be leading our collective worship on Friday 18th Nov again I will text out the code word so their parents can attend.

Remember it is the singing day on Sunday at Glossopdale school 11.30-4 for the children in Y5&6.  The choir sessions start on Tuesday 15th 5-6.30.  I know lots of our children were keen to join in.

On Wednesday 16th November (next Wednesday) the children will be having their flu immunisations in school if you have registered them for it.  If you haven’t registered your child they will not be able to receive it.

On Thursday 17th the Y5s will be going to Glossopdale for a dance workshop.

The PTA have a cunning plan to improve their notice board and would like you to save and send in any corks you may have over the next few months.  We promise not to judge the quantity.

This year the PTA are producing a special commemorative tea towel. Your children have been busy this week sketching themselves so they can get it into production in time for Christmas delivery. The tea towels are priced at £3.50 each and order forms are being sent home this week. A copy is also attached should you want to print and return yourself. There is no limit on the number you order however the deadline for orders is 25 November.

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a good week last week.  We have returned to one of the very exciting weeks with Halloween on Monday and Bonfire Night on Saturday.  I hope you are able to enjoy both events in whatever way suits your family.

Thank you to all the parents that helped make the PTA Disco such a success.  The children had a great time.  Also thank you for your generosity, the disco made over £500.

As you know we have had a request from Educade a charity working in Sierra Leone that we support to send some Christmas Shoe Boxes for the orphans they work with.  Each shoe box needs in it:

  • Soap ● Toothbrush ● Pens/ Pencils ● Notebook ● Hair comb (not brush) ● Water bottle ● A gift of your choice (under £5).

Please can the boxes be in school by Monday.

I am pleased to let you know that Steven Davies has been appointed as the new Parent Governor.

Before half term you were sent the photo proofs for your child.  You can order prints online.  If you want to send your order back through school, you need to bring the proofs and the money into the office by 17.11.22.

We understand that there is an annoying glitch in the running of See Saw when you have more than one child in school.  You can only get alerts for one of them.  Mr Holt has a solution but it is not straightforward.  If you would like his help to remedy this problem email school and he will help you.

The PTA Christmas Fair is fast approaching.  The committee are beginning to work on cunning plans for it.  If you have any good ideas or want to offer to help, please email

Next Friday 11th November Y6 will be leading our Remembrance Day Collective Worship.  I will text out the code word that morning to their parents.

We have poppies for a donation, and other Royal legion items priced between 50p – £2, available in school.

If you haven’t sent in the money your child raised for the Glossop jog yet, please can you as soon as possible.

Stay happy and healthy
